Gulf  Coast shipbuilders have teamed up through the Gulf States Shipbuilders Consortium to address the need for more skilled workers. The consortium is working with technical colleges in Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi to stage a series of sixweek boot camps where job candidates will get training to move into jobs with the greatest need. There's a special need for welders, shipfitters, riggers, electricians, machinists and carpenters, who make between $42,000 and $45,000 annually. \par (Source:New Orleans City Business, 08/11/08)}
