City of Horizon
About the Project
In the post-Katrina era, Mississippi is facing a monumental demand for housing which is unparalleled by any other period in its history. A single day shattered Mississippi’s Gulf Coast, scattered Mississippi’s families across the nation and left many of them without permanent homes of their own. Hurricane Katrina damaged or destroyed over 70,000 homes in Mississippi, including over 30,000 rental units.
Horizon was conceived principally by Bob Windham and Mike Adkinson to meet the acute demand for housing that was created in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Horizon’s phase 1A (2,800 acres) will allow homebuyers to select from among 5,100 residential lots and will provide commercial interests with hundreds of acres of commercial property. Phase 1B (1,500 acres) contemplates approximately 1,200 lots, several multifamily projects, and several million square feet of commercial property including a 39 acre commercial Town Center.
To further expedite the reconstruction of South Mississippi, Horizon Utilities, LLC, will install its own utilities infrastructure, including all water and sewage systems necessary to service Horizon residents.
